Grove School Hawks Shape Up for Fall Soccer Season

The 2013 Fall Soccer Season kicked off with the team’s first week of practices with a group of 26 enthusiastic players.  The team will be made up of at least half of last year’s undefeated squad and many new recruits from the new students entering Grove this fall.  “We have a range of ages, abilities and experience this year.  We are focusing on conditioning, fitness and individual skills in our early practices, but our returning talent and new skill sets look promising for another competitive season,” says Head Coach Mike Black.

Coach Black returns for his fifth season as Head Coach will be supported by three assistant coaches.  The Hawks practice several times during the week with occasional weekend practices.  The Hawks first game is Thursday, September 19th at Barrington Christian Academy and the team will play at least two games a week for the rest of the season.   Coach Black says, “We need to be prepared to defend our record from last year.  We have strong players and a lot of leadership, but working together as a team is the most important goal.  Along with soccer skills, I aim to teach the value sportsmanship, dedication and hard work this season.”
